Brenda Sullivan is the City Clerk Treasurer. She is serving her second term as Clerk Treasurer of Columbus. Brenda is actively involved in the community in Columbus, and is a lifelong resident of Bartholomew County.
Prior to being elected City Clerk Treasurer, Brenda was the Office Administrator for the Bartholomew County Prosecutor's Office for 24 years. She gained valuable experience in government accounting and business from her prior employment.
Currently, Brenda is a member of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, commonly known as IACT. She is also a member of the Indiana League of Clerk Treasurers, the Indiana League of Municipal Clerk and Treasurers, as well as the Indiana Controllers. She serves as Vice-President on the board of Family Service, and is a board member for Columbus Visitor's Center. In addition, she is a member of the Vision 20/20 Committee, and a 2006 graduate of Leadership Bartholomew County. Brenda is also a member of the Bartholomew County Democrat Ladies League. She has been a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and is actively serving as a Stephen Minister.
As a second term City Clerk Treasurer, Brenda is facing many challenges including new property tax reform in the legislature and the possibility of new creative ways of funding the city's budgets. She is working with Mayor Armstrong and Columbus City Council to insure the City of Columbus continues to be a great place to live, work and play.
Columbus voters elect the Clerk Treasurer who serves four-year terms of office. The Clerk Treasurer is the keeper of the municipality's official public records and is the Chief Financial Officer of the city of Columbus. Specific duties are defined by the Indiana Code (I.C. 36-4-10) and the Municipal Code of Ordinances. No other elected municipal duties are as specifically defined by law as the duties of the Clerk-Treasurer.

The Clerk Treasurer is the keeper of the municipality's official
public records and is the Chief Financial Officer of the city of
Columbus.
As the city's Chief Financial Officer, the Clerk Treasurer's
office is responsible for:
- all employee payroll procedures
- processing all claims for payments
- issuing all city checks
- maintaining and investing all city's funds
- keeping the city's financial records in order per the guidelines of the
Indiana State Board of Accounts and Indiana statutes
- reporting all of the city's finances to the appropriate local, state,
and federal agencies
As the keeper of official records, the Clerk Treasurer's office:
- serves as the Clerk to both the Common Council and the Board
of Public Works and Safety
- prepares and maintains all official Common Council agendas,
minutes, and records
- prepares and maintains all official records of the Board
of Public Works and Safety
- keeps all ordinances, resolutions, and city codes
- responds to requests for city public records
- provides all proper legal notices and advertising on behalf
of the city
