| Learn the Fundamentals of Lifeguarding |
Have you thought about becoming a lifeguard at Donner Aquatic Center or another swimming pool? Do you know what it takes? This 4 session course will provide an introduction to the skills required by a lifeguard. The course will survey rescue techniques prescribed by the American Red Cross as well as Ellis Associates, the safety management system used by Donner Aquatics Center. It will also focus on required swimming skills, including strokes and stamina.
The class will not result in Red Cross certification or an Ellis license. However, participants will learn the responsibilities of lifeguards and the basics of water rescue. By the conclusion of the class, students will have a good idea as to whether or not to pursue lifeguarding further. Each participant will receive a personal skills evaluation at the end of the course. To enroll, students must be 15 years old by May 1.
The instructor will be Jim Lemke, Donner Aquatic Center Manager, who has the Ellis Lifeguard Instructor certification and also Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
