The TIP is a document that programs transportation projects for Columbus and Bartholomew County for a four-year period, and is updated every two years. Projects may include road construction, bridge rehabilitation and replacement, Safe Routes to School projects, People Trail connections, transit enhancements, and other transportation-related projects. The updated TIP was approved on May 8, 2017 by the CAMPO Policy Board, and may be viewed here.
The TIP lists all transportation projects that use federal transportation dollars as well as transportation projects of regional significance, regardless of funding source. The TIP is regularly amended by the Policy Board to allow project revisions and additions.
The TIP serves several purposes, including:
- Implementation of the Long-Range Transportation Plan
- Keeping the public informed of changes to the transportation network
- Establishing a schedule for transportation projects
- Providing an overview of project costs
