Processes:

  1. Police Officer – Offers for employment will be conditional offers subject to one or more of these requirements.
  • Applicants must pass a standardized written aptitude test.
  • Applicants must pass a standardized physical fitness test.
  • An oral interview board will be selected by the Chief of Police or his/her designee, and applicants will be interviewed by the board. Based on the interviews, the board will create a list, ranking the applicants they deem qualified.
  • Applicants must pass a background investigation(s).
  • Applicants must pass polygraph examination(s).
  • Applicants must pass a medical examination(s).
  • Applicants must pass emotional stability/psychological fitness examination(s).
  • Applicants must receive approval from the local and state pension boards.
  • Upon successful completion of all phases of the process, the applicant may be offered a position. If the applicant is offered a position, they will begin employment on a probationary period.
  • Upon successful completion of the probationary period, a person may be appointed to the position of Police Officer.
  1. Civilian Personnel – Offers for employment will be conditional offers subject to one or more of these requirements.
  • The Chief of Police or his/her designee will review the applications, and a list of most qualified applicants will be created.
  • An oral interview board will be selected by the Chief of Police or his/her designee and the list of most qualified applicants will be interviewed by the board. Based on the interviews, the board will create a list, ranking the applicants they deem qualified.
  • Applicants must pass a background investigation(s).
  • Applicants must pass polygraph examination(s).
  • Upon successful completion of all phases of the process, the applicant may be offered a civilian position.
