INDIANAPOLIS – Aug. 22, 2026 – Columbus Mayor Mary Ferdon has been honored by the Asian Pacific American Public Affairs (APAPA) Indiana Chapter for her leadership in making Columbus a welcoming, inclusive and resilient community.

Mayor Ferdon received APAPA’s Community Strength in Unity Award during the organization’s 2026 Annual Gala on Saturday at the Dallara IndyCar Experience in Indianapolis. Her recognition highlighted her administration’s work in advancing affordable housing, improving public transit, supporting downtown revitalization, strengthening public safety and uplifting Asian American and Pacific Islander residents through cultural events, public programs and community engagement.

“Civic engagement is critical for a healthy community which welcomes everyone,” Ferdon said. “When residents engage in civic life through their voices, time and talents, our community is stronger, more resilient, and we are able to achieve a great many things.”

The gala featured remarks from U.S. Rep. André Carson and recognized ten Community Contribution Award recipients, including Mayor Ferdon. Local dance groups Infinite Rhythms by Ruhana and the Columbus Women Dance Team performed during the event.

APAPA also celebrated youth scholarship recipients and participants in its Young Leadership Development Program.

The event marked the fifth anniversary of APAPA’s Indiana Chapter. APAPA, founded in 2001, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
