Can the city install a &#8220;Slow Children at Play&#8221; sign?<\/div><\/a><\/h4><\/div><div id=\"collapse-1-81\" aria-labelledby=\"faq_1-81\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content post-content\"><p>Children at Play signs are very popular with the general public.\u00a0 The Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) does not suggest using this sign or similar signs such as &#8220;Deaf Child Area&#8221;.\u00a0 Our office receives many requests to install these signs from well-meaning citizens who want traffic to slow down so children will be safe.\u00a0 If a driver does not slow down when they see children playing, they will not slow down because a sign says there are children playing.\u00a0 The signs are not effective; therefore, the City does not install them.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default fusion-faq-post fusion-faq-post-80 general \"><span class=\"entry-title rich-snippet-hidden\">People are driving too fast in my neighborhood. However, the City does have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/36vkyjk1pz9r5k6\/SCSC%20Program%20Application.pdf?dl=0\" target=\"_blank\">Shared Cost Sidewalk and Curb (SCSC) Program <\/a>designed to encourage the reconstruction of residential sidewalks and curbs. \u00a0The City of Columbus will pay $4 per square foot of sidewalk and $25 per linear foot of curb, the applicant pays the rest.
