On June 2, 2022, Columbus Firefighters spent the day with approximately 25 local youth for the annual CPD/CFD Youth Academy program. This day-camp spans 4 days and allows children 9-12 years of age a chance to learn about law enforcement and the fire service.

Thursday, June 2 was dedicated to all things fire service. Columbus Firefighters presented several educational opportunities, demonstrations and hands on activities for the attendees which included; CPR training, search and rescue, proper use of a portable fire extinguisher, home fire escape planning and vehicle extrication.

Columbus Fire Chief Andy Lay began the “Fire Day” by welcoming students to the course and inviting the children to consider a rewarding career in the fire service in the future. The day concluded with some water fun from a fire department sprinkler, also know as a fire hose. We look forward to next year’s academy!
