{"id":418,"date":"2020-06-22T14:10:59","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T18:10:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/fire\/?page_id=418"},"modified":"2020-06-22T14:17:17","modified_gmt":"2020-06-22T18:17:17","slug":"fireworks-safety-tips","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/fire\/safety-information\/fireworks-safety-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"Fireworks Safety Tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Fireworks Safety Tips\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Obey all local laws regarding the use of fireworks.<\/li>\n<li>Know your fireworks; read the cautionary labels and performance descriptions before igniting.<\/li>\n<li>A responsible adult SHOULD supervise all firework activities.\u00a0 Never give fireworks to children.<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol and fireworks do not mix.\u00a0 Save your alcohol for after the show.<\/li>\n<li>Wear safety glasses when shooting fireworks.<\/li>\n<li>Light one firework at a time and then quickly move away.<\/li>\n<li>Use fireworks OUTDOORS in a clear area; away from buildings and vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>Never relight a \u201cdud\u201d firework.\u00a0 Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.<\/li>\n<li>Always have a bucket of water and charged water hose nearby.<\/li>\n<li>Never carry fireworks in your POCKET or shoot them into METAL or GLASS containers.<\/li>\n<li>Do not experiment with homemade fireworks.<\/li>\n<li>Dispose of spent fireworks by wetting them down and place in a metal trash can away from any building or combustible materials until the next day.<\/li>\n<li>FAA regulations PROHIBIT the possession and transportation of fireworks in your checked baggage or carry-on luggage.<\/li>\n<li>Report illegal explosives, like M-80s and quarter sticks, to 9-1-1 dispatchers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>And let\u2019s not forget the safety of our pets!<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t bring your pets to a fireworks display, even a small one.<\/li>\n<li>If fireworks are being used near your home, put your pet in a safe, interior room to avoid exposure to the sound.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your pet has an identification tag, in case it runs off during a fireworks display.<\/li>\n<li>Never shoot fireworks of any kind (consumer fireworks, sparklers, fountains, etc.) near pets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fireworks Safety Tips\u00a0 Obey all local laws regarding the use of fireworks.
