{"id":281,"date":"2017-03-13T15:05:28","date_gmt":"2017-03-13T15:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/?page_id=281"},"modified":"2025-10-01T11:04:01","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T15:04:01","slug":"joint-district-projectsstudies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/joint-district-projectsstudies\/","title":{"rendered":"Joint District Projects \/ Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Camp Atterbury\/Muscatatuck Joint Land Use Study<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-43\" src=\"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/02\/atter.png\" alt=\"atter\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/02\/atter-66x66.png 66w, https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/02\/atter-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2017\/02\/atter.png 180w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/>The Joint Land Use Study was completed in 2009 and is the result of a cooperative venture between the Indiana National Guard; Bartholomew, Brown, Jennings, and Johnson Counties; the City of Columbus; the Towns of Edinburgh and Prince\u2019s Lakes; and the Cordry-Sweetwater Conservancy.\u00a0 The project was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, Office of Economic Adjustment .\u00a0 The need for the study was generated by the rapid growth and substantial increase in the use of Camp Atterbury and the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center by the Indiana National Guard and other branches of the military. \u00a0The study compared the long-term facility\u00a0and operational plans of the military installations with the land use patterns, transportation infrastructure, and future plans of the surrounding \u00a0communities.\u00a0 The intent was to identify and manage any incompatibilities.\u00a0 Common issues around military facilities include hazards to and from military aircraft and the noise created by military training exercises.\u00a0 The objectives of the JLUS were to (1) encourage cooperative land use planning between military installations and the surrounding communities; (2) seek ways to reduce the operational impacts of military installations on adjacent land; (3) reduce potential incompatibilities between the military installation and surrounding communities while still accommodating new growth and economic development; and (4) protect the general public\u2019s health, safety, and welfare without compromising the operational missions of the installation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/k0ctyl73dnv8m9g\/Atterbury%20Muscatatuck%20JLUS%20Final%20%20Complete.pdf?dl=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Camp Atterbury \/ Muscatatuck Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) (PDF)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-281","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"publishpress_future_action":{"enabled":false,"date":"2026-08-08 09:46:22","action":"change-status","newStatus":"draft","terms":[],"taxonomy":"","extraData":[]},"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":{"enabledWorkflows":[]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/281","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=281"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/281\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.columbus.in.gov\/planning\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=281"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
