Man Arrested for Voyeurism at Local Gym

A 24-year-old man is in the Bartholomew County Jail for voyeurism after police were called to a local gym for a man recording in the women’s room. At 8:07 p.m. on May 8^th, 2025, Columbus Police Department (CPD) officers were called to Total Fitness, 3075 Middle Road. Officers gathered that an 8-year-old female saw someone holding a cell phone under the stall as she was showering. Employees then found Tanner Vandeman, of Columbus, inside a women’s shower stall.

Employees and bystanders stayed with Vandeman until the officers arrived. The responding officers discovered Vandeman had recording equipment with him and had been convicted of voyeurism in the past.

Several electronic devices were taken and detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division were contacted.

Vandeman was arrested for the preliminary charge of voyeurism as a level 6 felony.

After Vandeman was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division continued to look into the incident after Vandeman’s arrest. They applied for and were granted a 72-hour hold for Vandeman on May 9th. Investigators also obtained a search warrant for the recording devices that were taken when Vandeman was arrested.

After reviewing the evidence and working with the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office, formal charges of child exploitation as a level 4 felony and voyeurism as a level 6 felony were filed in Bartholomew County Superior Court I today. Vandeman remains in jail on a $275,000 bond, as well as, a Johnson County arrest warrant. The investigation is still ongoing, and there is a potential for additional charges.

All charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
