Decorative pavers are currently being installed and engraved bricks will be installed next week in the two green spaces at State St and Stadler Dr & Indiana Ave.\u00a0 Landscaping of these two green spaces is happening this week as well.\u00a0 Cross walks at both green space intersections will be completed the last week of May.\u00a0 The memorial dedication of the Indiana Ave green space to the life of Sgt Johnathon Michael Hunter on Saturday, June 23rd at 11 AM.<\/p>\n

May 14, 2018<\/h3>\n

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Will Officially Launch State Street Corridor Project<\/strong><\/p>\n

The City of Columbus Redevelopment Commission is excited to announce that it will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly constructed and completed State Street Bridge and Corridor Project on Tuesday, June 5th, <\/sup>2018 at 4 PM at the Gateway Node on the north side of the bridge.<\/p>\n

Mayor Jim Lienhoop and Columbus Redevelopment Commission President (CRC), Sarah Cannon will be on hand to offer a few remarks regarding the State Street Corridor Project and to assist in the ribbon-cutting. The CRC funded the project.<\/p>\n

State Street now boasts a beautiful, architecturally significant bridge portal to the east side of Columbus, and the east side of Columbus is a shining representation of safe streets, pedestrian and bicycle friendly pathways, green spaces for families and visitors, economic opportunity and \u2013 simply put \u2013 Columbus at its best.<\/p>\n

Starting at the bridge and continuing all the way to Mapleton Street, the north side of State Street is boasting its first connection to the Columbus Trail System.\u00a0 New 8-10 foot wide concrete sidewalks, new gutters and curbs, multiple new concrete driveways at business entrances are making sidewalks multi-purpose and accessible to all.<\/p>\n

New landscape and hardscape improvements on the north side of State Street include engraved brick installations, 52 designed panels, new street lights, improved overhead and bollard lighting, and unique green-spaces, trees, benches and gathering spaces.<\/p>\n

Using primary colors and giving a \u201cnod\u201d to the industrial heritage of east Columbus, the panels brighten the sidewalk area, provide separation between pedestrian areas and business parking lots, and create another sturdy yet whimsical architectural element to State Street.<\/p>\n

The south side of State Street received new driveways, safer thresholds to businesses, relocated fire hydrants, stop signs and well-lit major intersections provide ADA compliant pedestrian travel along the East side business corridor.<\/p>\n

A newly completed Trail Connection from the Gateway Node to the People Trail provides a safe and continuous passage for cyclists and pedestrians \u2013 under the State Street Bridge \u2013 from the north side of State Street to the south side of State Street.\u00a0\u00a0 Cyclists and pedestrians no longer need to wait for traffic signals to change at the busy 5-way intersection to the State Street Bridge at 2nd and Central.<\/p>\n

The two green spaces have been designed at State Street and Stadler Dr. and Indiana Ave.\u00a0 These green spaces feature a handsomely patterned and pedestrian friendly landscaped brick way, crushed pavement, and puzzle benches.\u00a0 The Indiana Avenue green space will be dedicated to the memorial life of Sgt Jonathon Michael Hunter at a later date.<\/p>\n

February 26, 2018<\/h3>\n

The community is invited to celebrate the Revitalization of State Street by preserving names or thoughts through message on an \u201cEngraved Brick.\u201d\u00a0 Commemorate a loved one or a special occasion!\u00a0 Engraving includes two lines, 14 characters per line (including spacing).\u00a0 Participation is open to all individuals ($20), not-for-profits ($30), and businesses ($40).<\/p>\n

Bricks will be installed in the newly created green space at State Street and Indiana Avenue.\u00a0 Greenspace will feature a handsomely patterned and pedestrian friendly landscaped brickway.<\/p>\n

The deadline to order engraved bricks is Friday, April 13,\u00a0<\/sup>2018.\u00a0 Bricks will be engraved and ready for installation in May.<\/p>\n

Green Space at Indiana Avenue & State Street<\/p><\/div>\n

SGT Jonathan Michael Hunter\u00a0Memorial Planned<\/span><\/h3>\n

A memorial celebrating the life of Army SGT JONATHON MICHAEL HUNTER, an east side Columbus resident, will be located in the new green space at State and Indiana.\u00a0 The date of installation is yet to be determined.\u00a0 SGT Hunter gave his life for our country on August 2, 2017 while serving in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

February 21, 2018<\/h3>\n

Decorative Panels for People Trail along State Street<\/h3>\n

In early January 2018, fabricating began in earnest on the newly designed decorative panels\u00a0that will be installed along the State Street People Trail.\u00a0 The design of the panels compliments the Neighborhood Branding initiative that the Columbus Area Visitors’ Center is implementing across the City.\u00a0 The State Street project, wishing to celebrate the industrial heritage\u00a0<\/strong>of the east side of Columbus, designed the decorative panels with gear-like, cutouts of flying C’s.<\/p>\n

Powder coating in red, yellow, green and blue will visually connect State Street to other neighborhoods and areas in Columbus.<\/p>\n

A mock-up of two of the\u00a0decorative panels\u00a0<\/strong>can be seen in the pictures below.\u00a0 Panels will be arranged in staggered groupings of two (2) and (3) each, and installed in eight (8) different locations along State Street’s north side.<\/p>\n
