The Columbus Downtown 2030 Strategic Plan envisions transforming underutilized spaces into vibrant destinations where people gather, connect, and experience downtown.
One recommendation (RE-09) calls for activating the former Sears parking lot with a temporary “eatertainment” venue – a place that combines food, entertainment, and community while the site awaits long-term redevelopment. This vision has come to life in a uniquely Columbus way.
The City of Columbus partnered with local food truck organizers and vendors to create a monthly Food Truck Festival. The result is a community-driven destination that celebrates local businesses, brings people downtown, and creates new energy around one of the city’s most important redevelopment sites.
Following a successful inaugural season, the festival has returned even bigger in 2026 with:
- Extended hours from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Double the seating
- Space for up to 18 food and beverage vendors
- Live music during the evening
The festival will continue on the third Thursday of each month from April through October, establishing a signature downtown tradition that residents and visitors can enjoy throughout the season.
More than a successful event, the Food Truck Festival demonstrates the values that guide Downtown 2030.
It reflects Collaboration by bringing together local food truck owners, event organizers, the City of Columbus, the Office of Downtown Development, and other community partners to create an experience that no single organization could accomplish alone.
It also reflects Accessible to All by offering free admission, diverse local food options, expanded seating, and a welcoming gathering space where people of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy downtown together.
Great downtowns aren’t built all at once. They’re created through one gathering, one partnership, and one shared experience at a time. The Food Truck Festival is helping write the next chapter of Downtown Columbus.
