The Columbus Fire Department announces the hiring of Firefighter Samuel Burnett as the newest member of the department. Burnett was sworn in by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop at this morning’s Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting held at City Hall.
Samuel Burnett, age 31, is a Columbus native and a 2009 graduate of Columbus East High School. Burnett is a 2013 graduate of Indiana University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. Burnett is a state certified Basic Emergency Medical Technician as well as Firefighter I & II certified.
Burnett was employed with the City of Columbus Clerk Treasurer’s office prior to his appointment to the Fire Department. Burnett will begin a Columbus Fire Department orientation program which will conclude with a station and shift assignment.
