The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) announces the retirement of Lieutenant Rick Mullis, a 41-year veteran of the department. Lieutenant Mullis joined the Columbus Fire Department in 1984 and retired on June 9, 2025. The Columbus Fire Department extends our gratitude to Lieutenant Mullis for his faithful years of service to the department and the community.

Inspector Andy Johns has received a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant. Inspector Johns has been with the Columbus Fire Department since 2015 and has served in the Inspection and Investigation Division since 2024. Inspector Johns will remain assigned to the Inspection and Investigation Division.

Firefighter Samantha Smith has received a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Smith has served with the Columbus Fire Department since 2017.  Lieutenant Smith has been assigned to Battalion B and will serve as company officer at Fire Station #1.

These promotions are effective immediately. Congratulations to our members on their respective achievements.
