The Columbus Fire Department welcomes a new member, moving the department to full staff. Logan Duke, 28, was sworn in by Columbus Mayor Mary Ferdon during the Tuesday, September 23 Board of Public Works and Safety meeting held at Columbus City Hall.

Duke is a 2015 graduate of Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, CA. In 2016, Duke joined in the United States Navy as a Damage Control Officer where his primary responsibility was firefighting and flood control. Duke attended Ivy Tech Bloomington in 2023, where he received a Certificate in Public Safety. Duke served as a volunteer firefighter with Columbus Township Fire Rescue from 2023-2024. Duke began a career firefighter position with the agency in 2024 through this hiring by the Columbus Fire Department.

Duke is a nationally registered Basic Emergency Medical Technician and holds Indiana Firefighter I & II certifications. Duke also holds National Incident Management Systems Certifications and is a Swift Water Rescue Technician.

Duke will undergo a Columbus Fire Department orientation and training program which will conclude with a station and shift assignment. Duke and his family reside in Columbus.
