Grant-Funded Tactical Urbanism Demonstration Project at 27th and Home Intersection
*Community Survey coming August 1st!*
The City of Columbus is the proud recipient of a grant from the Indiana Department of Health for a temporary safety
demonstration project at the intersection of 27th Street and Home Avenue. The project includes colored pavement
markings, curb extensions, and delineator posts for the purpose of increasing pedestrian safety by slowing down traffic
and improving driver awareness.
The intersection is utilized by more than 4,000 students attending adjacent schools, as well as additional pedestrians and
bicyclists accessing nearby neighborhoods, restaurants, and the People Trail system to the north. This grant-funded
project will allow the City to test how well these design elements improve safety and inform permanent design decisions in
the future.
Once work is completed, community members will have the opportunity to share feedback on the project through a survey
on the City’s Bike Walk Columbus website and at two open houses on Tuesday August 12, 2025 and Thursday August
21, 2025.
This project is a collaboration between the City of Columbus Engineering, Planning, and Public Works
Departments, with additional support from the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation, Columbus Regional Health,
and Columbus Police Department.
Updates on the project, community survey, and community open houses will be shared on the Columbus Indiana
Engineering Facebook page.

The City of Columbus is excited to announce that the League of American Bicyclists has recertified our community as a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community for 2020 – 2024. Thank you to the wonderful community partners and organizations that continue to promote and encourage bicycling in our community!
Existing Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Map
With the City of Columbus Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan and the City of Columbus Thoroughfare Plan as guides, the City is continually working to improve and expand the city’s network of trails, sidewalks, and other bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

Columbus ‘C’ Bike Racks
Columbus is internationally known for its architecture and art. Good design is a core value of our community and that belief in good design has extended even to our bicycle racks! Inspired by the city’s iconic ‘dancing C’ trademark, the Columbus C Bike Racks add vibrant color to public spaces and businesses within the city. The C Bike Racks come in 4 colors (yellow, blue, green, and red) and are available for purchase from the Columbus Park Foundation. The purchase of a bike rack from the Columbus Park Foundation supports the continued maintenance and upkeep of Columbus’ People Trail. For more information about purchasing a C Bike Rack for your business or organization, visit the Columbus Park Foundation.

Bicycle Parking Spaces
Knowing where or if you’ll be able to securely lock up your bicycle at a destination is a common concern for bicyclists. The map to the right is intended to reduce that concern. The photo to the right is a link to an online map that shows the location of bicycle racks in our community. The map also indicates the type of bicycle rack you’ll find at each location.
