The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) announces the retirement of Captain Tim Hughes, a 35-year veteran of the department. Captain Hughes joined the Columbus Fire Department in 1987.

During his career, Captain Hughes rose through the ranks; earning officer promotions of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Battalion Chief. Captain Hughes obtained certifications as a Paramedic Emergency Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Officer and Fire Instructor. Captain Hughes is a 2016 graduate of the Company Officer Development Institute and obtained a Degree in Nursing during his career as a Columbus Firefighter.

Captain Hughes retires from his current assignment serving as the Battalion-C Captain of fire station # 2. Captain Hughes’ official retirement date is Wednesday, January 25, 2023.
