The Columbus Fire Department announces the promotion of three department members to fill officer vacancies left by the recent retirement of Battalion Chief Jeff Cain.  These promotions were effective January 16, 2023. Battalion Chief Jeff Cain retired on January 6, 2023.

Captain Mike Sieverding has been promoted to the Rank of Battalion Chief. Battalion Chief Sieverding is a twenty-five year veteran of the department and had previously been promoted to Captain in 2013. Battalion Chief Sieverding holds a Fire Officer certification through the State of Indiana. Additional certifications include: Confined Space Rescue Technician, Paramedic, Hazardous Materials Technician, Rope Rescue Technician, Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Technician and Fire Instructor.

Lieutenant Aaron Eichel has been promoted to the rank of Captain. Captain Eichel has served sixteen years with the Columbus Fire Department. Eichel had previously been promoted to Lieutenant in 2019. Captain Eichel’s  certifications include: Confined Space Rescue Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Rope Rescue Technician, Swift Water Rescue Technician, Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire Officer, Fire Instructor and Safety Officer.

Firefighter Chris Tuttle has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Tuttle has served sixteen years with the Columbus Fire Department. Lieutenant Tuttle’s certifications include:  Emergency Medical Technician, Rope Rescue Technician, Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Technician, Fire Officer, Safety Officer and Fire Instructor.
