2024 Patriot Day Observance  An American flag is hoisted above the Columbus City Hall Plaza with a crowd of community members and public safety officers standing at attention in anticipation for the start of the annual 9-11 remembrance ceremony. Public safety officers are dressed in their ceremonial uniforms.

The City of Columbus will observe the 23nd anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on our nation with a remembrance ceremony held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. The ceremony will take place on the Columbus City Hall Plaza and will begin at approximately 8:40 a.m. The observance is open to the public.

The ceremony will include a moment of silence followed by a dispatch broadcast to honor the first responders and citizens who lost their lives following the attacks at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 which crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Nearly 3000 people lost their lives during the attacks.

The Columbus Police and Fire Color Guard will take part in the ceremony and Columbus Fire Department officials are scheduled to speak. In addition, a traditional Fire Service bell ceremony will take place to honor the fallen.

The ceremony is scheduled to last approximately thirty minutes. Rain location will be the Cal Brand Meeting Room.
