The Columbus Fire Department announces the hiring of Jeremy Jones for the position of firefighter. Jones was sworn in by Columbus Mayor, James Lienhoop, at Tuesday’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.  Jones joins the Columbus Fire Department after serving three years as a Columbus Police Officer.  Jones joined the Columbus Police Department in 2015 as a patrol officer. Jones was also a member of the Columbus Police Department’s K9 division. Prior to joining the Columbus Police Department, Jones was a member of the Fort Lauderdale, FL. Police Department from 2010 to 2015. Jones participated in the department’s most recent hiring process and was required to complete each firefighter candidate phase, which included the fire department’s written testing, oral interviews and candidate physical ability testing (CPAT).

Jones will complete a basic Emergency Medical Technician course and State of Indiana Firefighter certification course through the remainder of 2018. After completing this training Jones will receive a shift schedule and station assignment.
