Man Arrested following Pursuit

A local man is in custody for felony charges following a 30-minute-long vehicle pursuit. At 9:38 am on August 3^rd, 2026, Columbus Police Department officers were called to the 800 block of Reed Street for a disturbance. The caller reported that there was a man there yelling at them that they did not know. When officers arrived, they found a silver Chrysler van in the road. The man in the driver seat was yelling. Officers began speaking to him and noted he was agitated and accused the uniformed officer of not being a real cop. The man also told the officer he didn’t have a license. When the officer asked for his identification, the man sped away in the van.

Officers chased the van through various parts of Columbus. As it continued, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, Edinburgh Police Department, and Indiana State Police provided assistance. The man was driving erratically, going the wrong way down one-way streets, and stopped multiple times to yell at people out the window. Tire deflation devices were used that flattened the front passenger side tire, but the driver continued, eventually losing the wheel entirely. He continued to flee, striking a parked car on 3^rd Street. Officers tried to immobilize the vehicle, ultimately doing so near 10^th Street and Creekview Drive. Officers ordered the man to get out of the vehicle, but he did not comply. He had to be forcibly removed from the vehicle and restrained.

The man was identified as Dustan Pedigo, 45 of Columbus. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation, where methamphetamine was found in his sock. Pedigo was remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail for the preliminary charges of:

• Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a level 6 felony
• Possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony
• Resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor
• Criminal recklessness with a vehicle, a class A misdemeanor
• Leaving the scene of an accident, a class B misdemeanor
• Disorderly conduct, a class B misdemeanor
• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a class C misdemeanor

Pedigo sustained minor injuries, but fortunately, no other injuries were reported.

All charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
