One Arrested following Standoff

A Columbus man is in jail after a two‑and‑a‑half‑hour standoff during which he was armed with a knife.

At about 8:20 p.m. on September 16, Columbus Police officers were dispatched to a home in the 1300 block of Sycamore Street for a domestic disturbance. It was reported that Brandon Kincheloe, 33, of Columbus, had threatened a family member with a kitchen knife and then fled into the residence.

Upon arrival, officers established a perimeter and began attempting to persuade Kincheloe to put down the knife and exit the home. As officers worked to de‑escalate the situation, additional information was obtained indicating that Kincheloe had battered a male, causing minor injuries, and had threatened to batter and stab another person during an argument. Kincheloe also threatened to stab officers while refusing to comply.

The Columbus Police Department SWAT Team and crisis negotiators responded to the scene. Despite repeated efforts, Kincheloe refused to cooperate or drop the knife. Shortly before 11 p.m., SWAT personnel deployed less‑lethal options, allowing officers to safely disarm and take Kincheloe into custody.

Kincheloe was transported to the hospital for evaluation before being remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon (two counts, Level 5 felony) and battery resulting in bodily injury (Class A misdemeanor).

The SWAT Team is a combined unit consisting of members from the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.

All charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
