The Columbus Department of Public Works officially opened its new Arcadia Drive facility on May 20, drawing an estimated 230 residents, city employees and local officials for a ribbon‑cutting ceremony held during National Public Works Week.

Rainy weather didn’t deter attendees, who gathered to hear remarks from Columbus Mayor Mary Ferdon, Public Works Director Bryan Burton, and Redevelopment Director Heather Pope. Pope, who emceed the event, mixed DPW‑themed humor into her introductions, earning frequent laughter from the crowd.

Speakers emphasized the department’s service to the community and celebrated the long‑awaited upgrade to a modern workspace. The new 75,000‑square-foot building replaces DPW’s former 15,000‑square‑foot facility on Kreutzer Drive, a fivefold increase in space that city leaders described as essential for supporting a “world‑class” public works team.

Following the ceremony, DPW staff led guided tours of the building. Tour routes were color‑coded to match the city’s new ColumBUS Loops system.

City officials thanked project partners including Force Construction, Force Design, Columbus Redevelopment, JS Held, RE Diamond, Arsee, and numerous subcontractors involved in the facility’s completion.
