American Revolution Day kicked off Columbus, Indiana’s Celebrate 250 celebration with hands‑on history, community spirit, and plenty of summertime fun on Fourth Street in downtown Columbus.

Hosted in partnership with the Joseph Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the event invited visitors of all ages to explore America’s early story through crafts, games, and interactive displays. Misting stations helped keep everyone cool as families made their way through tents filled with activities and conversation.

Members of the Joseph Hart DAR chapter greeted guests in mostly period‑accurate clothing—paired with a few modern sunglasses—bringing a touch of 18th‑century life to the heart of the city. A giant 250th‑anniversary quilt quickly became a favorite selfie spot, drawing steady crowds throughout the day.

Children had the chance to make their own rag dolls and whirligigs, adding a playful, tactile connection to historic pastimes. Visitors also spent time chatting with DAR members to learn more about local history and the organization’s mission.

American Revolution Day set the tone for Columbus’s six‑day Celebrate 250 festivities, marking the beginning of the city’s tribute to America’s 250th anniversary with creativity, community, and a lively look back at the nation’s early days.
