Columbus, IN –The City of Columbus Redevelopment Commission is delighted to announce that Mikala Brown has been promoted to the position of Redevelopment Assistant Director, effective January 1, 2025.

A native of Hope, Indiana, Brown graduated in 2017 from Indiana University Purdue University Columbus, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business, concentrating in Management and Finance, along with minors in Leadership Studies and Communication Studies. Mikala brings a wealth of experience to her new role, particularly in customer service and support, project and event management, reporting, and financial analysis. In her capacity as Redevelopment Assistant Director, Brown will oversee the Redevelopment Commission’s efforts to implement various public and private improvement projects that aim to stimulate business growth, expand economic and employment opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors. Her responsibilities will include managing projects, engaging with key stakeholders and the public, and working closely with the Director on the professional development and organization of the Department, while also advocating for awareness of Redevelopment issues within the community.

“I’m thrilled to take on this impactful role as Assistant Director,” says Ms. Brown. “My experience as Project Coordinator has allowed me to deepen my understanding of local government and the critical role of Redevelopment in driving economic growth. I am eager to continue supporting our mission.”

Beyond her work in Redevelopment, Mikala enjoys spending quality time with her husband, Darren, and family, taking day trips with their dogs, engaging in outdoor activities, and traveling. Since 2020, she has co-owned and operated Cedar Spring Farm LLC in Hope, Indiana, an events solutions business and future event venue, alongside her mother and sister.
