The Columbus Board of Zoning Appeals is a quasi-judicial body charged with reviewing property owner requests for exceptions (“variances” and “conditional uses”) from the City of Columbus Zoning Ordinance. Typical requests include constructing a new building closer to a property line than typically permitted, operating a home-based business, or installing business signs that are larger than typically permitted. The Board’s actions are based on decision-making guidelines specified by State law and require the applicant to justify their request by demonstrating some practical difficulty or unnecessary hardship in the use of their property.
Meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
City Council Liaison: Jeff Bergman
