Training:

Are you a member of a Board or Commission at the City of Columbus, Indiana, a full-time employee or an elected official, looking for your ethics training? Start here! This page is devoted to providing you with your ethics training materials, if you meet the definition of “public servant” in the City of Columbus’ Ethics Resolution 20-2025

The definition:

“Public Servant means, broadly, anyone working for the City and includes any Elected Official, Appointee, Department Head, or Employee.”

Public servants shall be trained within 12 weeks of beginning their service, and then every other year after that.

Please make sure to let your Director/Department Head, or City Council Attorney/Corporation Counsel/Assistant City Attorney know when you complete your training, as they will submit that information to the Clerk’s office, where records of training are maintained.

Advisory Opinions:

Do you need an Advisory Opinion regarding an Ethics Matter? Getting one can be helpful, as it protects you, if you follow the recommended steps in an Advisory Opinion. If you are on City Council, please contact your President or the City Council Attorney. If you are a Department Head or other City Employee, please contact Corporation Counsel or the Human Resources Director. If you are an elected official, (Mayor or Clerk), please contact Corporation Counsel!
