Columbus, IN – The city of Columbus has appointed Jacob Sipe as the new Director of Community Development, effective July 9, 2025.
Sipe will work under the guidance of the Mayor’s Administration, focusing on several priorities, which include:
- Implementing Community Development Block Grant funding,
- Leading housing program initiatives,
- Fostering community relationships with downtown stakeholders,
- Promoting economic development through the tax abatement process,
- Overseeing code enforcement,
- Coordinating various community activities and events, including Ethnic Expo.
Additionally, Sipe will be responsible for the execution of the Downtown 2030 plan and the ongoing implementation of the latest housing study for Columbus.
Previously, Sipe served as the Executive Director for the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA). His responsibilities in that position encompassed managing the state’s multi-family financing programs, homeownership, anti-poverty initiatives, and placemaking efforts.
Throughout his career, Sipe has received numerous prestigious awards, including the William A. Crawford Public Service Award, Sagamore of the Wabash, and the Michael Carroll Community Economic Development Leadership Award. He is a proud graduate of Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs and actively serves on various boards across the state.
