Columbus, Ind., Friday, Aug. 14, 2026 – Strong winds from a brief downburst caused damage Thursday night in northern Bartholomew County, according to the National Weather Service. The storm brought wind gusts up to 50 mph and knocked down 7 to 10 utility poles along Rocky Ford Road. Additional tree and power line damage was reported on Trestle Drive, Cunningham Drive and Westenedge Drive, including areas near the Columbus Municipal Airport.

One damaged utility pole supported a City of Columbus outdoor warning siren near Westenedge Drive and River Road. Several residents also reported minor home damage, including fencing and siding. Duke Energy crews are working to restore power. No injuries have been reported.

Flooding continues across Bartholomew County after 1 to 4 inches of rain fell overnight, with additional rainfall expected Friday morning. A Flood Warning for the county remains in effect until noon. Minor flooding is also forecast along the East Fork White River at Columbus through early Monday, with the river expected to crest at 13.1 feet Saturday morning. The Flatrock River near Columbus is under a Flood Warning until Sunday evening and is expected to crest at 15.7 feet overnight.

Several roads remain closed due to high water, including 150 E at 400 S, Southern Crossing between State Road 11 and 150 E, Tinkey Bridge at 400 N, and 800 S between State Road 11 and U.S. 31. High‑water signs remain posted at Mill Race Park and Noblitt Park.

Officials urge drivers not to travel through flooded roads or around barricades, as conditions may change quickly with additional rainfall.
