The City of Columbus is working with state and other local organizations to prepare for, and respond to, any health risks and issues related to the Coronaviris (COVID-19).

In early March, a local integrated community preparedness and response coalition formed, to prepare for, plan, monitor and respond to this evolving situation on a local level.

The Community Coalition consists of the following members:

  • City of Columbus Mayor’s office;
  • Columbus Regional Health;
  • Bartholomew County Health Department;
  • Bartholomew County Emergency Management;
  • Bartholomew County Commissioners’ Office;
  • Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation;
  • Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce;
  • Columbus Area Economic Development Corporation; and
  • Cummins, Inc.

Sub-teams have formed from this coalition to deal with specific areas involving First Responders and Dispatch, Transportation, etc.

We are working with local health professionals to implement measures which ensure the safety of our city employees, visitors to our facilities and citizens. We will provide notice as needed if any facilities or events are affected by this situation.

For our employees and any visitors to our facilities, we ask for support and shared responsibility by continuing to follow our proactive guidelines:

  • Stay home when sick;
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick;
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth;
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then dispose of the tissue in the trash;
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe;
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol.

Questions or concerns related to Coronavirus-COVID-19 should be directed to a healthcare provider or the Bartholomew Health Department. For additional information from the Indiana State Department of Health on COVID-19, please visit
