About Extra Trash and Special Pickups

City residents with our trash service are allowed to set out additional trash or bulky items that will not fit in their toter such as furniture or appliances. Items can be placed curbside at any time with no need to wait for your trash day.

After you have set your items out at the curb, please use our CurbCycle app, or call the Department of Public Works at 812-376-2509 to request a pickup. This prevents us from making excess trips for items not yet out. We will not fulfill a request until the items are out and ready to be picked up.

Please know that we cannot guarantee a same-day pickup. We will do our best to pick up your request within 24 to 48 hours.

Qualifying items for this service are:

  • Up to 20 bags or boxes of trash
  • 1 to 2 pieces of furniture
  • Appliances

Non-qualifying items for this service are:

  • Televisions, computer monitors, screens
  • Carpeting
  • Lumber
  • Shingles
  • Concrete
  • Fencing
  • Any construction or remodeling debris
  • House clean-outs or move-outs, i.e. more than 20 bags or boxes

Televisions, monitors, and screens must be recycled at the Bartholomew County Recycling Center. Learn more about electronic recycling.

We recommend the following vendors for the disposal of non-qualifying items. The above items, including house moveouts/cleanouts, must be disposed of by the property owner.

  • Best Way Disposal: (800) 354-1830
